This aptly describes the efforts represented in this little magazine, in many ways. For some of the contributors it is applying of their knowledge of the first principles of literary and creative writing, for others it is the beginnings of a literary career that will be their life, for all of the contributors it is the opportunity to wear the title of "author." The members of this year's Writer's Club and all the other contributors to this year's Arkai hope that our efforts may prove entertaining to you and also helpful, in time of indecision and temptation, in guiding you along the path of God's will. Preparing us, the students, for the Lord's service throughout our life is the greatest advantage that Augsburg gives to us and if we, the Writer's Club, have contributed to or furthered this aim in only a small way, we are humbly grateful. Deen., Anthology of poetry and prose., The search ends as it began: In one blinding moment when all is real. from "Life" Jon Michael. Editor's Foreword, Long ago in Wales, there was an edict that all bards should be put to death... for as long as their songs rang out in challenge, King Henry of England found himself powerless against the Welsh. We are glad to hear in this day of spineless living on the part of many the voices of the bards still challenging us to be ourselves against all opposition. The bards still sing! The dawn of each new day is a throbbing prelude to the deep, magnificent song of Life; as a new day dawns in the growing future of Augsburg College, we of the Writers' Club, imbued with a valiant spirit and deeply in earnest, hope that you, the reader, will consider our craftsmanship as a worthy adversary to spineless living. We also hope that as you walk through the forest of life, we may be allowed to blaze the trail. Ermon L. Deen., Electronic scans of printed copies of the Augsburg College literary magazine.

We feel that one excellent way of achieving such expression is through the medium of literature. In hope of fulfilling our participation in Augsburg's 1960 Festival of Fine Arts celebration this second issue of the ARKAI comes to you, with no pretensions. We offer a small collection of miscellany including, we hope, a measure of quality and the genuine. Joyce S. Birkeland., Electronic scans of printed copies of the Augsburg College literary magazine.
