Show more| Though Joa” Hall “vaguely amusing” and “slightly embarrassing, one cal) a , Stacks Prior to Augsburg, Griffin taught at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Ghere she met her husband, an English Professor at Wartburg. She said Wartburg was a good college but she “didnt want to die in Waverly.” So in 1986, Griffin began teaching at Augsburg College upon hearing “glorious reviews” of the college, and because of her own personal wish to live in the city yet still teach at a “small, church-related school.” Griffin stays busy taking care of her five cats and coming up with their unique names, such as Stokely, ‘Hecate, and Gibalt. “I’m pretty content with what I’ve done with my life,” she said. She threw out her idea of writing the “Great American Novel,” but did succeed in learning how to do a headstand in yoga before age fifty. “Ghe handstand would be next, I suppose!” One might be surprised to discover her love of the Rolling Stones, (blaring loudly in her car on the way to work) and Bob Marley. Griffin likes listening to the Moody Blues, Celtic music lin tangent with her major in Literature and her emphasis on Celtic Ganguages during college) classic rock and the Beatles. In the little free time she has, she likes to watch Big Gen basketball with her husband, work in her flower garden, and cook. Joan also plays the recorder quite well, and has performed Renaissance music on campus with a couple other Augsburg faculty members. Griffins fun, innovative, and productive teaching style clearly shows her love for the students and for teaching, and also reflects her vast knowledge of English Citerature as well as many, many other subjects. ‘Yes, indeed, Joan Griffin is definitely unique and she has the office to show it! ~Katie Hough
