RECOGNITION COMES DUE Below: Individual titlists in the Augsburg Wrestlers are accustomed to a lack of Invitational Tournament: T. Jackson, S. recognition. This year’s team achieved Whirley, and R. Barron. to a point where denying them recogni- tion was not possible. A fifth consecu- tive conference championship after a third consecutive season without a con- ference defeat. Two national champi- ons, Jeff Swenson and Scott Whirley, and a third place finish out of eighty- seven schools in the national meet held in Wheeling, West Virginia. Hundreds of dollars donated by students to help fly the team east, and two unprece- dented cover stories in the Echo. This is a team that will not be forgotten. “It takes a special kind of closeness as a team to do well in wrestling, and it takes a lot of that closeness to excel at a national level.” a : < See Re ak eS Coach Grygelko
