This was Dr. Sateren’s last year of directing the choir. As a teacher, conductor, and composer Leland B. Sateren has established himself as a major figure. His music is performed by choirs throughout the nation. The Augsburg choir, which he has directed for the past 29 years, has enjoyed international acclaim as an outstanding college choral organization noted for its tremendous discipline, fine tone, and technical virtuosity in the face of an extremely adventurous and demanding repertoire. This year the choir toured the west coast d ring | the —— of January. Director Leland B. Sateren. Dr. Quanbeck and Dr. Torstenson traveled with the group as the choir studied either ‘Cities of the Far West” or “Religions of the Far West”. The choir performed 23 concerts with enthusiastic responses from audiences and critics in the Dakotas, Montana, Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Minnesota. The tour ended with the Sateren Recognition Concert held at Orchestra Hall on Feb. 3, 1979 The Choir also acquired bright new maroon velvet robes given through the generosity of the Choir Alumni, parents, and friends. ————_— = — ae — i ——t Rp joer: bbe

Meeting every Monday night in old main chapel, the choir prepares for their participation in occasional eucharists and chapels. The Music Therapy Club plays an important role in the education and social life of Music Therapy students. Meetings are held monthly and vary from disco lessons to a demonstration on using music with deaf children. Major events for the Club included a presentation at the music department's performance workshop, and a Valentine’s Day Carnation sale. Money from the annual fund raiser is used to ease the costs of students attending the Regional Conference. This year the Club adopted a constitution and was recognized by the student senate. It all relates to publicity and coverage — the before and after. What is significant? What might be interesting? Who will make the most noise if unable to cover an event? We were quick to learn that significant news does not flow from this college community on a regular basis.
