This semester, | will be presenting a staged reading of my play for theatrical honors. |am currently looking for anyone who might be interested in being a part of the project. In “Passage,” we follow a small Swedish family from beginning to end of their journey to America. The story mostly centers on the son, Bj6rm, who acts as the main narrator, chronicling the family’s journey in a journal. Many characters are double-cast for effect: BJORN: Son. Early teens. Main Narrator. Also KIM LYDIA: Mother. Also SOLVEIG JACOB: Father. CAROLINA: Daughter. 6-8 years old KRISTINA: LYDIA’s younger sister. Left Sweden in earlier wave. Lives in Minnesota . Family's connection in America. Also EMMA LARS: Good Samaritan. Also DOCTOR/DRAGON KIM: BJORN’s great-grandson. Also BJORN EMMA: KIM’s older cousin and BJORN’s great-granddaughter. Also KRISTINA. SOLVEIG: KIM and EMMA’s grandmother, and BJORN’s granddaughter. Also LYDIA TEACHER: Strict authoritarian educator. Historically, likely male. Also NACKEN NACKEN: “male water spirits who played enchanted songs on the violin, luring women and children to drown.” Also TEACHER DOCTOR: Helps family in emergency. Also LARS/DRAGON VOICE: offstage voice. Also reads stage directions DRAGON: Figure of CAROLINA’s imagination. Also LARS/DOCTOR Rehearsals start this week, so | will need firm commitment ASAP. This is likely to be mostly big-picture level proposals (such as changes to P/NP policy) but we may have time for easy-to-deal-with tweaks to courses or majors. Given the uncertainty facing us, we will not be able to look at proposals for new courses or programs for the rest of the year. April 1,2020 ; I= Email a correction for this post Show less

These events will be posted on Handshake. We have also put together a specific task force to monitor employment and internship trends for this summer and to develop strategies for supporting students looking for positions and specifically graduating seniors looking to transition to their first post-academic opportunity. Our mission is to create a structure for coaching and advising students on post academic opportunities whether that is employment, graduate school, or volunteer service. The Strommen team has been working on these items and a number of other things to be prepared to serve the student body. Please let us know what is on your mind and what else you might need.
